I first read “Four Arguments” when it was first released in 1978. It was quite a radical premise back then, particularly for a young college student like myself who had not yet questioned the god-like aura of the glowing electronic altar. It was heady stuff, and all of the detrimental effects so predicted have not only come true but are far worse than I suspect even Mr. Mander could have imagined.

“In The Absence of The Sacred” is another cornerstone work that celebrates the wisdom of native cultures while mourning the loss of the sacred in the modern world. It is a must read for anyone who senses that something is missing in their everyday life, and sometimes wonders just what that could be.
